PHILOSOPHY
Early Years expertise sprang from a deep and amused passion for young children. How they think, how they learn, how they interact with one another and the world around them. Out of this came lessons in learning. Young children don't wait for us, they don't just accept all that we have to offer, they challenge us by their sheer unique noticings and interest, and invite us to truly embody what it means to educate: meet the need of the individual here and now.
REGGIO AND CHILD-LED LEARNING
As a school principal, invited to speak at Reggio about the innovations in Australia and our own work in mulitage education, it emerged that the truth of the 100 languages of children and the power of child-led learning can be a living, breathing, reality.
LEADERSHIP IN DUBAI
In Dubai, responsible for babies to 4 years olds - building and design, resourcing, curriculum, policy, training and management. This meant having a full 360 degree view of what it means for a child and their family to come to early years from babyhood and nurture them safely to thrive until they enter school.
WORK IN INDIA
In India honouring the passion of educators and families to care for young children and give them the best. Then working to reframe what 'best' looks like and harnessing the deep desire that exists to learn and reflect and strive for richness in early years pedagogy.
A SPECIAL VIEW OF EARLY LITERACY
For literacy learning for young children, to discover a mind blowing realisation that young children's drawings are windows into early literacy skills, in a way that nothing else can be. Turning this understanding into powerful professional development that carefully reforms our respect for young children's early ideas and understandings, has been my commitment.
